The future Sports and Events Center and its AIL Arena, soon to open, have occupied our attention for months. But Lugano does not forget its old loves: 75 years after its creation, the city is preparing to bid farewell to the Cornaredo Stadium with a celebration open to the entire community. It will take place on Thursday, June 4, from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, naturally at the (historic) Cornaredo Stadium.
The celebration
We are used to seeing the stadium from the stands, but on June 4 we will all step onto the field for a picnic with circus performances and music, offered by the City of Lugano. But you can’t open the stadium gates without taking a shot on goal. Before the picnic, between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM, children (aged 5 to 14) will have the opportunity to train with three team legends: Mattia Bottani, Mijat Maric, and — playoffs permitting — Jonathan Sabbatini. From 6:30 PM, the football field will turn into the picnic lawn. The first 300 registered participants, via the MyLugano app, will receive a free picnic basket. Even without registration, it will still be possible to access the stadium throughout the evening: bar stands for drinks and a free buffet will be available while supplies last. The atmosphere will be enlivened by the artists of Circo Fortuna and, from 8:30 PM, by a concert from the United Soloists Orchestra.
The program for June 4
