Rui Filipe Pereira Nunes, clarinetist, bridges contemporary orchestral work and interdisciplinary stage projects—from Stravinsky to Martinů.
Rui Filipe Pereira Nunes is a clarinetist who began his musical path at the Coral Harmonia de Santiago do Cacém at six, and later honed his studies with teachers including Nelson Caetano, Gonçalo Conceição, Sérgio Coelho, and Inês Nunes.
He continued his training at the Escola Profissional Metropolitana (studies with Professor Hugo Figueiredo, completed in 2020) and then earned a degree at the Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra in the class of Professor Nuno Silva (2023). He also attended a free course at the Academia de Música de Lisboa with Professor Iva Barbosa, and completed a Master of Arts in Music Performance at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana under Professor Jordi Pons, followed by a Master of Arts in Music Pedagogy at the same institution.
As a performer, Rui has collaborated with orchestras including Orchestra Le Nove, the Orchestra Sinfonica del Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana, and multiple Lisbon-based ensembles such as the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa. He has worked with conductors including Christoph König, Francesco Bossaglia, Jean-Marc Burfin, and Johan de Meij.
In USO’s crossover spirit, he brings a strong contemporary focus—working directly with composers such as Paul Glass, Federico Pezzatini, Antonio Coiana and Francesco Fiorenzani—and an openness to interdisciplinary projects combining music, theatre, poetry and song.
