Lorenzo Tonta, trumpeter at USO, trained between Lugano and Detmold, and brought contemporary energy through Du Yun’s “Paper Boat” premiere.
Lorenzo Tonta is the trumpeter of United Soloists Orchestra, and he combines classical training with a strong connection to contemporary music.
He began his musical education in his local band, then continued at the Civico Liceo Musicale ‘R. Malipiero’ in Varese under the guidance of M. Alberto Cazzulani. From 2020 to 2025 he studied at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano with Francesco Tamiati, Giuliano Sommerhalder and Antonio Faillaci. In 2023 he took part in Erasmus at the Hochschule für Musik in Detmold with Klaus Bräker, Anne Haineman and Hannes Rux. He is currently attending the first year of the biennium at the Conservatorio ‘G. Cantelli’ in Novara with M. Antonio Faillaci.
His concert activity includes collaborations with ensembles such as L’Orchestra da Camera di Lugano, 900presente, the Civica Filarmonica di Lugano, as well as United Soloists and Le Nove in Lugano. He has been conducted by international conductors including John Neschling and Arturo Tamayo.
For crossover programming, he brings a contemporary focus—collaborating with composer Du Yun for the world premiere of “Paper Boat” at the Festival Neue Musik Rümlingen.
