Matteo Ballabio

Matteo Ballabio is a pianist at USO, anchored in a jazz pathway shaped by studies under Dado Moroni, culminating in a graduation in jazz music with full marks.

He began piano at the age of eight with a classical approach, then at fourteen started connecting with jazz under Carlo Uboldi. He continued at Slum and Sumu in Lugano with Mario Rusca, before pursuing academic studies at the Conservatorio di Como from October 2010, finishing in February 2017.

His early career includes selection for the Swiss national showcase Suisses Jazz Diagonales in 2014, bringing him to play in multiple clubs with his project Insidevening. In 2015 he recorded Headshrinkers, a fusion/jazz disc featuring entirely original compositions, and performed at Icogne Jazz Festival with Insidevening.

From 2019 to 2025 he plays as a pianist for the resident band on some RSI radio and television broadcasts, while since 2019 he has been a steady member of Joe Dallas and the Monks (funk/pop/soul). He also founded the experimental jazz project Omura in 2022, and in 2026 created the Matte Ballabio jazz quartet to perform his original writing.
