Carmen Pironi is the viola player of United Soloists Orchestra, bringing a solid foundation from her Master in Pedagogy and her extensive work across chamber, orchestral, and educational settings.
She began violin studies at age four with Vico Vladimir, later adding viola and, at fourteen, entering the Conservatorio “Vincenzo Bellini” in Catania, studying violin with Giovanni Anastasio and viola with Paolo Giacchino. After completing classical maturity, she moved to Lugano and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance (2014) and a Master in Pedagogy (2016) at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana under Danilo Rossi and Anna Modesti for the teaching track.
Her viola work has been shaped through international masterclasses including Formazione Orchestrale di Lanciano, the Festival delle nazioni in Città di Castello, Chigiana in Siena, and advanced study in Sermoneta, with coaching from Silvio Di Rocco, Danilo Rossi, Yuri Bashmet, and Bruno Giuranna. She has collaborated with Italian and Swiss ensembles such as the Orchestra da camera di Lugano, Arcadia, and the Schweizer JugendSinfonie-orchester (SJSO), and performed contemporary music by Joe Schittino and Andrea Portera at RSI Auditorium and the Auditorium Monastero dei Benedettini in Catania.
At USO, Carmen’s crossover strength lies in her ability to bridge orchestral performance with pedagogy—reflected in her ongoing teaching activity and her publications on transforming from violin to viola.
